About KopiaLens
KopiaLens is an app for Kopia backups. It runs and schedules your backups, restores files, looks after your repositories, and shows what's inside them: the real size of every folder after deduplication, every version of every file, and what changes each night. When something shouldn't be in your backups, KopiaLens Pro removes it from every snapshot that holds it. KopiaLens runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and in Docker on a home server or NAS.
Why it exists
KopiaLens started in June 2026 as a small script. My Kopia backups had grown far bigger than they should have, and no tool could tell me why: KopiaUI shows sizes before deduplication, and nothing showed which folders held the space. The script answered that question, and a day later it became an app. With it, I reclaimed more than 400 GB across 5 TB of Kopia repositories by removing junk that had been backed up for months.
Since then it has grown into a complete backup app, tested every day on my own repositories. I hope it helps you see inside your backups too, and keep them lean.
Who makes it
KopiaLens is made by Anshul Jain, an independent developer. It's a one-person project, funded by Pro licences and by the people who support it. More about me: anshuljain.net.
Your backups stay yours
KopiaLens works with standard Kopia repositories. Your backups never depend on KopiaLens: KopiaUI and the kopia command line open the same repositories at any time.
Built on Kopia
❤️ Thank you to the Kopia team and contributors. KopiaLens wouldn't exist without Kopia. It's one of the best backup engines out there: fast, secure and dependable, and I'm grateful to be able to build on it. KopiaLens is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by the Kopia project.
