Pro licence terms
Last updated: 22 October 2026
These terms apply when you buy or use a KopiaLens Pro licence. Using KopiaLens itself is covered by the terms of use.
Who sells Pro licences
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Polar Software, Inc. ("Polar"). Polar is the merchant of record for all our orders: it processes your payment, charges and pays any sales tax or VAT, issues your receipt, and handles payment and refund requests. Your purchase is also subject to Polar's buyer terms. Pro through Patreon is paid to Patreon under Patreon's terms.
The licence itself is granted by:
Anshul Jain, the developer of KopiaLensEmail: support@kopialens.com
What Pro includes
Pro unlocks the KopiaLens features that remove data from inside your backups:
- Remove files and folders from existing snapshots, with a dry run
- Delete every snapshot that holds a file
- Prune versions: keep the ones you choose, remove the rest
- Smart exclude rules (same name, same extension, similar names)
- Exclude & delete: stop backing it up and remove existing copies
Everything else in KopiaLens is free for everyone, including organisations.
Licence types
- Pro yearly ($20 per year at launch): for one person's own use, including their own one-person business. A subscription that renews every year until you cancel it. Includes every version released while it is active.
- Lifetime ($50 one time at launch): for the same use, with no renewal. Includes every 1.x and 2.x version. Versions you already have keep working with Pro after that, including after 3.0.
- Business ($99 per year at launch): for an organisation whose staff use Pro on work data. A subscription that renews every year until you cancel it, for up to 10 installations.
- Patreon: active patrons on a tier that includes KopiaLens get Pro while their membership is active.
- Enterprise: more than 10 installations, or running KopiaLens for clients. By arrangement: email support@kopialens.com.
A personal licence doesn't cover an organisation whose staff use Pro for work; that needs a Business licence. We trust customers to choose the right licence. The licence holder's name is shown in the app.
Prices, renewals and cancelling
- Launch prices are introductory and apply to purchases made while they are offered. Prices for new purchases may change later.
- A yearly or Business subscription renews automatically once a year, charged by Polar to the same payment method, until you cancel. A subscription bought at a launch price renews at that price for as long as it is renewed without a break.
- You can cancel any time from the link in your Polar receipt email or by emailing us. Cancelling stops future renewals. Pro keeps working until the end of the year you've paid for.
Activation and installations
- Each licence works on up to 10 installations of KopiaLens. Email us if you need more.
- Activating a licence key needs an internet connection once. For computers that are never online, an offline licence file is available.
- Once a week, when the computer is online, KopiaLens checks its licence with our licence service. It sends the licence and a random install number, so we can count the installations and countries each licence is used in. Your IP address isn't kept. Subscriptions and Patreon licences renew through the same check.
- If the check can't run, KopiaLens keeps working. A licence only stops early if it is refunded or shared publicly.
When a licence ends
KopiaLens keeps working as the free version. Nothing is deleted and no data is locked.
Transfers
Licences can't be transferred. We can re-issue a licence to the same person under a new name or email at any time. Other transfers are handled case by case by email.
Refunds
See the refund policy.
If KopiaLens stops
If KopiaLens is discontinued, or the licence service is shut down for good, a final update will be released that keeps Pro working, with no server needed, for every Lifetime licence and every licence active at that time.
Support
Support is by email at support@kopialens.com and in the KopiaLens Discord. Business licences get priority email support.
Changes to these terms
New terms apply to purchases made after they are published. A licence you already bought keeps the terms it was sold under.
